Well on our way!
It’s May 2nd today and we are well underway with our renovations of both units at the Aston Maui Banyan in Kihei, Hawaii. As of today we have finished the demo of both units, pulled out all cabinets, carpets, tile, bath tubs, everything and are starting to put it back together.
So, where are we at?
Well, We hired our friend Sean and the Isle Tile guys to do all of our tile work in the bathrooms and out on the lanais. These guys did an excellent job, and the bathrooms look fantastic. Even the lanais look a hundred times better not having to look at those ugly pink tiles any more. The neutral gray marble look on the lanais will compliment the flooring throughout. And the bathrooms have walk in showers with beautiful black porcelain tiles on the walls and white stone flooring. They look modern, clean and contemporary. We wish our showers looked as nice at our house!
I spent about a week pulling off popcorn ceilings and patching the myriad of pukas (holes) in the walls. Once that was done I started painting the interior. Now every room is painted with minor touchups still left. The colors look fantastic. The walls are shades of grayish blue (one color is actually called “Shave Ice”) while the kitchen areas are a “Temptation Rose” color. The colors compliment one another very nicely, and will look great when the rest of the floors are in.
I was able to get all the upper cabinets put together and installed too. They are white full wood cabinets that look excellent. I’ll be building the bottom cabinets in the next week or so and hopefully getting those in as soon as I finish the flooring.
Speaking of flooring, I just started laying the LifeProof vinyl plank flooring from Home Depot. This stuff looks incredible and all the people we spoke to who have used it tell us nothing but good things. The studio should be finished tomorrow I’m hoping, and then we’ll move on to the one bedroom and the baseboards.
All in all, we are on track to have the condo finished by the time our first guests arrive on June 4. Then again, there’s always some incidentals, so wish us luck!
